Samsung Omnia Lite B7300

Samsung B7300 Omnia Lite This is the Samsung Omnia Lite B7300 - a lightweight version of the heavyweight Omnia range of phones. But can you actually have a "Lite" version of the Omnia, when the phone's very name means "Everything"?

It doesn't look like an Omnia handset - it has managed to avoid the slabby black look and has gone for a combination of brushed metal and an interesting cellular pattern on the back.

There's not actually much to see - the 3.0" 240 x 400 pixel display is fairly large but not particularly high-resolution. On the back is a modest 3 megapixel camera with autofocus but no flash. Not terribly impressive so far, is it?

The Omnia Lite runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional which includes a wide range of software, including a comprehensive multimedia player and a choice of web browsers, plus support for standard email clients and push email. Samsung have enhanced the user interface with its own TouchWiz software, which gives a consistent look-and-feel amongst high-end Samsung touchscreen phones. New applications are widely available for this platform, including a choice of personal navigation applications. Samsung say that the Omnia Lite should be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.5 when it becomes available.

Despite the "Lite" tag, the B7300's specification are a small step down from the original Omnia announced a year ago, although it is some way behind the current crop of Omnia phones. Still, the B7300's capabilities will exceed the needs of most people.

Physically, the B7300 Omnia Lite measures 107 x 52 x 13mm and weighs in at 103 grams. The substantial 1500 mAh battery should provide a reasonable amount of talktime, although Samsung have not said what this is.

Samsung say that the B7300 should be available during Q4 2009. Pricing information is not available, but we would expect the Omnia Lite to retail for something in the region of €300 - €350 SIM free.
